This very special tiny house was designed and built by me. I am a log and conventional home builder, and built this for my family. It was designed to house 3 adults in a cold winter climate with skiing as the primary activity. As the one responsible for hauling it and living in it, I allowed no compromise from functionality to appearance. I tried to think of everything that would make this place a pleasant and enjoyable space to live in, and after living in it for 4 years (4 winters, 34 summers) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, I can say I was very pleased with the outcome. We experienced temperatures of -30 for a week at times, and were warm and toasty in there. Several people have asked me what I would do differently if I could change something. Nothing! It performed perfectly.
In my opinion, living in a 'tiny house' is in no way a reason to sacrifice quality of life. Things like walking in under a covered porch, a place to sit down to put on shoes and boots, ample coat hooks, a place for dirty laundry, storage for things used often, and things rarely used, comfortable sleeping quarters, and leisure area as well as practical work space, make this place a home.
The tiny house itself is built on a custom 26' trailer with recessed walk way in the mud room. It has two 7000# axles, trailer brakes, and all trailer wiring is protected in electric conduit.
The handcrafted trusses and stairs are mortised and pegged together, and are made from reclaimed old growth Hemlock. The reclaimed barn wood cabinets are adorned with beautiful and unique stone drawer pulls and handles collected from the Lake Michigan shoreline. Laminate flooring in the main room is the highest quality that could be purchased at the time. The mud room has an indestructible floor that can handle ski/work boots, skis, water, and any kind of abuse you can think of. There is storage for 7 pairs of skis, boot dryers for 3 pairs of ski boots, and 11 single dryers for hats, gloves, etc..
I hauled this tiny house from Traverse City, Michigan to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with my 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel truck - driving through everything from big city traffic to steep mountains, and I had no issues.
My original thoughts were to hang on to it as a family heirloom, but I would like to see others get a chance to experience what we did. I am not interested in talking 'tiny house' and giving tours. If you have the means to purchase this tiny house and are interested, please contact me.
